For the past several months, I've noticed a rhythmic tapping on my 6.7. It has 27k miles and it's most noticable on the passenger side wheel well. Unlike the famous typewriter sound, mine taps very rhythmically, a out once per every 2 engine revolutions. This makes me suspect mu valve train. It is more noticable before fully warmed up, and from outside the truck or when the window is down. I've run 5w40 PBE since 10k miles, changing every 5k-7k.
Mine started making a knocking sound. I was sure it was a rod knock. Even towed it home it was so bad. Anyways a little fuel conditioner in the tank and within 2 miles the noise went away. Hasn’t come back in 10 000kms so far.
It's at the dealer, I'll let the forum know what they find out. I also asked them to check a weak battery (slow crank sometimes after it sits for a couple of days, battery eye on passenger side battery is black when it happens, 12.1 v), check the alignment and steering play (it is feeling a tad loose lately), and replace my four 19.5" wheels that have the valve stems corrosion. It also dripped from the grab handle once since they fixed the windshield leak, so I suspect one of my clearance lights may leak a little. It was finally enough annoying things to take it in, and apparently Ford has a standard fix for the leak and approves wheel replacements for corrosion now.
Battery 1: 730 amps, Battery 2: 12 amps --> replaced
Tapping: said it was normal
Drip: put thicker gaskets (new design) under 2 marks lights
Steering: replaced stabilizer, tightened gear box
I had the tapping and it was fixed with the PCM update. This was a good year or more ago and I haven't had any engine issues since then. I imagine there was a bug that caused the injector trim or timing to get out of whack.

Was it a regular tap with one per 2 engine turns like mine?
