Thanks for you time in advance here.
the previous owners
sorry
1990 f150 302 manual 4x4 lariet ..there.
so the previous owners owners of my truck one way or another managed to bend some of the fins on the AC condenser.
this is the ac radiator in front of the coolant radiator?
my ac does not work and is still configured for r12
I would like to know if I can just remove this condenser and scrap it.
if and when I convert to r134 I’m guessing you need a new condenser anyway.
my cooling will be improved without this banged up condenser in the way ?
I need a new one anyway.
i pressed the valve and the gas inside is loooooong gone.
thoughts please
thankyou
….but I can just remove it for now and leave the hoses to it taped up and secure ..that will be ok ?
Yes. You could also remove the hoses. When you decide to make the a/c functional then I would replace the condenser, all the lines and the orifice tube. Do you know if the compressor is good? That might also be on the list of new parts if you don’t know.
Thanks for asking that.
i did use a paper clip to short out the low pressure cut off sensor on the side of the accumulator and the clutch kicked in and the compressor
did run.
but I am going to remove the condenser.
but when you convert to 134 ..the new style condenser requires you to replace the hood latch support with a 94 to 97 Style
becuse the later condenser does not fit behind the 90 style hood latch support.
Years ago I had my ‘89 converted to R-134a and didn’t change anything. It’s a regular cab and would be cold enough that I had to move the temp lever away from full cold. When I did the frame swap two years ago I replaced everything with brand new “R-12” parts for an ‘89.

I need to check mine because it takes 15-20 minutes before I feel a temp difference in the cab.
once it changes, it’s like ice, but takes a while.
