2012 Expedition…………
No adjustment on the door hinge to bring the door in tighter against the seal, I have run out of ideas, any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA
Might be worth double-checking how the door sits when it closes or looking around those spots. Wind noise can be super annoying on longer drives.
If anyone’s dealt with this before and fixed it, I’d love to hear how.
If it developed over time, it probably needs new hinges. Very common on all vehicles to not really be able to see that they're worn, wind noise or difficulty closing the door are two common symptoms, difficulty closing is usually addressed by adjusting the latch pin when it's really the hinges wearing out. It is the door that gets opened/closed EVERY time the vehicle moves so it sees the most wear.
If the vehicle was purchased this way, might want to check Carfax or other reporting agencies, it may have been in an accident and 'slapped' back together without properly adjusting all damage. I came across this on an '03 Super Duty prior to the one I ended up buying. Went for a test drive w/o the salesman, he had the rear sliding glass open so the exhaust (had a pipe up through the bed) could be heard. I closed it to listen for wind noise, heard a LOT, saw the bottom of the passenger door wasn't even TOUCHING the door frame, I could see the ground through the gap from the driver's seat! Went back and handed him the keys, said he might want to get some body work done, it has been in an accident. Ended up showing him the gap, then left. He probably sold that truck to some unsuspecting kid, unfortunately.
I have always gone over used vehicles with a fine-tooth comb, so to speak. I've gone so far as to stick a dollar bill in a door frame and try to slide it between the seal and the frame to check for gaps. I bring a moving blanket to throw down on the ground if they won't put it on a lift so I can inspect the underside. I bring a mechanic's stethoscope to listen to belt pulleys and listen for valve/lifter tick. If ANYTHING seems out of the ordinary, I'm willing to walk on it.
