I installed my new door seal from DC on the drivers door and cant seem to adjust the door the way I want it. I have to almost slam it to get to shut and once it shuts it is hard to open from the inside and makes a loud pop/click when it opens.
My question is how did you install the seal, did you take the door off?
What adhevsive did you use?
I took the door off and use permanex (sp) adhesive. It was silicone based and took a long while to dry.
I have yet to try the passenger door until I get a few pointers. I did a search but did not come up with many useful hits.
well no need to remove the door. i would not adjust the door. the new rubber takes a while to form. also permatex is the wrong stuff to use. they sell weatherstrip adheasive for 4.00.
I took the doors off when we did mine and regreted it. It knocked the doors out of adjustment. And I finally got them adjusted right when I had the truck painted. And I used the weather striping glue to adhere the seal to the door.
I just finished the passenger door. Left the door on the truck. Much easier that way. Only took about 45 minutes to remove old and install new. I used 3M weatherstrip adhesive. The 3M became tacky much faster and help the weatherstrip stay in the correct setting.
Maybe there should be a sticky with all this often asked newbie information.
I recommend door removal; due to ease of positioning the rubber seal; but there's more than one way to skin a cat. If you remove your doors I recommend drilling a pilot hole into your hinge on the door side between the hinge bolts on both hinges and insert a nail or drill bit into the holes during installing door to re-align the hinges; especially if you paint the truck prior to installing seals or if your alginment is not in its true position prior to removal.
Again all technique's work well if the right mind is at work.. A seem to usually leave my at the garage door.
