Disable reverse brake ‘assist’

Seriously, for my particular situation/application it’s more dangerous than helpful, is there any way to do it?

Figured it out. For those wondering, it’s on the touchscreen > driver assist > reverse brake assist

Yeah, that tracks. On a lot of newer systems Ford has buried those safety/driver assist settings pretty deep in the SYNC touchscreen menus, and they don’t always label them clearly. Reverse Brake Assist especially can feel “dangerous” or intrusive depending on what you’re building or towing with. Good find on the path though — driver assist settings is usually where Ford tucks anything related to automatic intervention like that. Once it’s disabled there, the system generally won’t try to step in during low-speed reverse situations anymore.

Exactly. I spent way too long digging through the SYNC menus before I finally found it buried in the driver assist section. It was getting pretty annoying while backing up slowly with a trailer because the truck kept trying to intervene when nothing was actually wrong. After turning it off, everything feels much more predictable and easier to maneuver.

What is this feature even good for; in what situation is it helpful?

I had mine come on the other day (by itself as far as I am concerned, I did nothing to activate it) when I was trying to back up my utility trailer, and it was so aggravating I about lost it.

It's supposed to keep the idiots who don't look where they're going from backing into things. My son's MIL can't pull up his driveway with her subaru because the rear brake assist kicks in when she's backing out due to a pretty sharp change in incline.

I've never had mine kick on with F-150, but if it did I'd probably nuke it.

So I guess the thing thought I was about to back into my utility trailer.
What's weird is that I've had this truck for two years and have backed up the trailer many times before without the reverse brake assist coming on.

When I have my bike rack on the hitch, or a trailer connected, it just warns me that the rear brake assist is disabled. Annoying, but not a real problem.
