Been having this issue intermittently.
when I put the truck in reverse, sometimes tbe “ + “ sign to zoom in doesn’t appear. I have to put the truck in park then reverse again and it works fine.

First thing I would do is reset it. These new radios are really computers in disguise.

 

How do you reset it?
By resetting it, will I lose any information on my screen such as radio presets etc?

 

Hold the power button and forward arrow button until the screen goes blank. I have not doe this yet because I have not needed to, but I think you will loose your preset and everything else.

 

Mine will lock up occasionally and wont let me change screens on the preset list - But this has only happened since the latest update. I will probably try the reset to see if it helps. I wouldn't mind rearranging my presets anyway.

 

I've seen it happen on mine, too...sometimes I can wait it out and it shows up in 5-10 seconds, other times I have to switch out of reverse momentarily.

You should just do a Master Reset of the SYNC 3 system instead of the soft reboot.

Yes, you will have to set your presets again but the Master Reset usually clears up issues you’re having and some you don’t see.

Do you know how to do it?

With the soft reboot, which involves holding down the power and track forward buttons for a few seconds until the screen goes off, you won’t lose your presets but you will have to reset the clock because it’ll be behind one hour afterwards.

 

How do you do a master reset?

 

Tap the Settings button, then tap General, then scroll to the bottom and tap Master Reset.

Do this while the vehicle is running and parked.

The SYNC screen will go black after you hit Master Reset so don’t freak out……Lol
That’s what it’s suppose to do and the entire process should take less than 2 minutes.

Everything will be put back to factory specs so be prepared to set everything up again.

This will usually clear up SYNC 3 glitches but if the problem still persists, you might have an APIM issue so a trip to your local Ford dealer will be required to confirm this.

I find that mine does this on occasion. Also, it seems that I frequently have to do soft resets because the satellite radio will not update the song/artist information when a song is over and a new one begins.

​​​​​​You are describing a soft reset. You lose nothing. The station you're listening to at the time returns, your presets remain and the clock time does not change. Once the screen goes black, release the buttons and it will do it's own thing and return you to the place you were previously listening to.

 

Based on your profile, it looks like your SD has MFT which is not the same as SYNC 3 which is what this posting is based on and the newer SYNC 4 systems.

Although many prefer MFT, I would agree that the older system is bad.

 

If you watch the video posted in the first post his is a Sync 3 not a MFT.

I have had this problem too on my '21. I believe it is from starting the truck and very quickly going into reverse. It will go away if you turn the truck off and back on again. It's annoying, but it beats resetting the sync system and losing some settings (screen brightness, ambient preset ect). To avoid this bug, I've found if I start the truck and just give it a few seconds to fully boot (map appearance ect), then reverse, the + will appear every time.
