Lift Pump Perhaps?
Should my lift pump have the ability to suck air strong enough to pull the fuel out of that container or do I need to prime it somehow? I don't want to waste time and money replacing the lift pump until I know for sure that's my issue.
Thanks in advance!
So yes, the point of the lift pump is to suck the fuel from the tank and lift it up to the injection pump, which them pressurizes it for fuel injection. If your lift pump won't suck out of a container of fuel presumably on the ground next to the engine, then its dead.
Sounds like you pulled off the line from the lift pump to the filter housing, did you check if it was blocked?
The mechanical pumps have been getting worse over the years, they may be crap right out of the box. Many people switch to an electric lift pump and remove/block off the mechanical pump. While many options are out there, Facet Duralift pumps are well known for being reliable and the most recommended for our engines. You'll want to get the Facet 40222, Aircraft Spruce is often mentioned as the cheapest place to get one. I have heard their may be fakes floating around ebay and amazon, so beware.

Yellow goes on B+ lug on starter solenoid
Black ground
White ties into harness to lead that powers fuel solenoid on IP.
Red/Blk pair connect to pump
Inlet is 1/8" npt x 3/8 90° barb
Outlet is 1/8" x 3/8 45° barb....45° works perfectly
Another 3/8" 90° barb on filter head (cant remember pipe thread size)
Hose is 3/8 AN-6 braided
Clamps are fuel injection style, not worm clamps
Standard Bosch style relay and 10amp fuse
Mounted on L bracket right next to corner of metal tray on top of fender liner. Relay mounted there also. It all just fits and will allow fuel to drain down without getting on anything if I need to clean strainer.
The only caveat is I now have something electrical that could conk out, so I'll keep a spare on board. Facet is more reliable than the crummy mechanical we're getting nowadays anyway...
BTW throttle response seems a little snappier as well.
