Hi all! I'm looking at a 1969 ford campervan to purchase and restore. This frame rust has me concerned, is it fixable? it seems one of the bolts on the steering box is near the rusted out part. Looks like there still is plenty of metal holding the box all together.
Does anyone have much experience restoring these older frames?
The problem with those vans is that they are unibody. If you are set on it, your best bet is to find a donor standard van and either swap the camper stuff over or cut out the sections the camper needs.
Hey guys, sorry, I was seeing what people thought about it. Honestly, it's my van and I just cant afford to keep it any more and I'd like to get rid of it. There's still a good bit of steel, and I've had a few old ford mechanics look at it and they say It's weldable and safe to drive.
However, I understand people have different tolerances for this. I'm wondering if people think its worth salvaging at all? its really just the one part of the frame, and otherwise a good reliable vehicle.
I forgot those old vans were unibody (same as my 56 2 door post)
I would just sell it as is and let someone else fix it
Trouble with welding rusted metal is you need to grind into it deeper and deeper as you go
