Just turned 353k miles yesterday and on way home I developed a SERIOUS miss. I ran Forscan lite when I got home and got a code P0265
This morning went through it: Checked FICM voltage and it stays at 48.5V, to 49V, checked the plug into the FICM, and all look good, checked the harness going into injector, pulled the harness off cleaned the injector male plugs and female on harness, greased the plug and plugged back in, and its a solid connection. Still have the P0265
Can an injector fail instantly? I want to get a consensus from you guys, thinking of ordering all 4 injectors from Accurate Diesel and doing the whole drivers side
As a reference 2003 Excursion 6.0 Powerstroke.
Haven't been on here in a LONG time as she runs perfect until yesterday afternoon.
Disconnect the injector connector and test the injector pins for resistance. Measure the resistance between the suspected fuel injector pins, component side. Be advised these pins are small and hard to get on cleanly without touching the probes on the other pins.
pins 1 and 2 =0.2 to 3.0 ohms
pins 3 and 4 = 0.2 to 3.0 ohms
pins 1 and 3 = greater than 10,000 ohms
pins 1 and 4 = greater than 10,000 ohms
pins 2 and 3 = greater than 10,000 ohms
pins 2 and 4 = greater than 10,000 ohms
If the resistances are not within specs the fuel injector solenoid is bad and the injector will need replaced. A typical reading is about 0.8 to 2.0 ohms which is in the middle of the specs.
If the resistances are good you need to check the harness, and then the FICM.
I checked the #2 injector and got 1.2 ohms between 1&2 and 3&4, I didnt check 1 to 3 or 2 to 4. I cant find anything else wrong besides injectors? I checked the harness and no issues, FICM tests good(When I bought it, it has a replacement from FICM repair already)
I put it back together partially, fired it up and running VERY rough, but show no codes now. Is it possible to be an intermittent problem with #2 injector?
i dont know the mileage of the injector, I replaced the odd number injectors 50k miles ago, thinking of just getting 4 new ones and doing the even side.
How do I check the FICM? I know how to check the output, and it shows 48.5 to 49V, but how else do you check it? Can I check the output going from the harness into the injector? Should I see 48v?
I didn't know Forscan Lite can do a Buzz test, it can. Just did it and it shows P0265 cylinder 2, P0268 cylinder 3, and P0280 Cylinder 7.
I didnt have any issues before, just started yesterday. To me that shows either a bad harness or bad FICM(or going bad). Can I "rent" a FICM to see if mine is going bad?
I said screw it and ordered a new FICM, hopefully will have it early next week?

Well, got my new FICM from FICM Fixer today, installed and same 3 codes! So now its either injectors or harness. For $100 I'll just do the harness, and order new injectors! Wife is gonna kill me for spending $700 for a FICM I didn't need...
I didn't the buzz test with Forscan, those 3 injectors showed bad. Unplugged injectors 2 and 4, plugged 2 into 4 and then all that showed wrong was injector 4(since nothing was plugged in on that wire harness), so assume that 2 is bad after all. Ive heard that one bad injector can show other ones bad.
Crap gets worse every time! Tore the engine down today and replaced the injectors on the driver's side. Put it back together, went to forscan to do a Buzz test to see how it is, and Im getting 2 new codes. U0105 and U0306. I called FICM repair, FICM Fixer and thoroughbred diesel and they all believe its the FICM relay, and ordered a new one, but all said it could be the ECM. Im over $1500 in this thing as of now, another $65 for the relay which is on order and wont have till Thursday. If that isnt it, then its the ECM and flagship one has them for $622, plus I think it needs to go to the stealership to get the PATS programed?
Ive had it with my truck... maybe its time to call it quits once its fixed? Every time these diesels go down, they bend you over for parts, plus diesel is now $1.70 gallon more than unleaded... I LOVE my Excursion but its getting old!
Anyone near Columbus ohio who knows these things too? Who can help me out? Im more than willing to help you out, fix your home AC, whatever.
For U0105, be sure you check the FICM ground condition.
U0306: Mismatched software between the FICM and the PCM. Not a big deal. Won't interfere with engine function and operation.
Sorry you are in for so much, that is why borrowing a FICM was suggested early on. I realize that isn't always possible. As posted earlier - most mobile mechanics carry a "known good one", but not all areas have those either.
