How to prevent locking hub theft?

I picked up a pair of Warn locking hubs and before I put them on I'm wondering if there's any way to prevent someone from snatching them in the middle of the night.

I'm going to be touring around Canada this summer with my truck camper and I'm sure I'll be spending a night here and there in not so upstanding neighborhoods and parking lots so just researching some theft prevention techniques at the moment.

Thanks fellas 👌

You could go with the ole “ out of sight, out of mind” trick by putting center caps on the front wheels that don’t have an opening.

Lock the hubs before you start on your trip and just shift the transfer case in and out of 4wd as needed.

Yeah you’ll burn slightly more fuel, but not enough to notice. And it’s not harmful to the transfer case at all. Dodge also used nv273/ 271’s and most of their trucks don’t even have locking hubs.

Then whenever you get back to a place where you’re not concerned about hub theft, replace the center caps on the front wheels with the ones you have now that do have a hub access opening.

Or,,, just drive your truck and not worry about a theft because stealing the hubs would require them to carrying the correct size Allen wrench and pair of snap ring pliers.

Out of all the things that could be stolen on a truck, hubs wouldn’t even make my list of concern. Wheels and cat would disappear long before any desperate crook thought of the hubs.

Substitute the outer portion mounting allen hardware with a tamper proof stainless fastener if you're that worried.

I would think they'd target something else before they spend time stealing locking hubs....but then again you never know.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it either. I’d be more concerned about your camper.

FYI. Those brass warn premiums are nice, but they can be a real bear to turn in the cold. Keep a set of water pump pliers to use if locking / unlocking in the winter.

That is nuts. Funny thing is I just purchased a set for my truck.

I'll be glad to rid of the intermittent vacuum hubs.

That was the best thing I did on my ‘04. Glad they went back to the old style in ‘05. Those early SD hub locks were a pita.
