My dad just took delivery of a 56Fairlane. Seems to be a decent car for a decent price. The motor has valve covers with Thunderbird Special on them. I didn’t think to get a pic of the motor or the door tag. When I see the car again I will. It is a Y block. Is there a way to tell what it is. Where do I find numbers? There is not a cross over pipe at the front as on 272, 292 trucks. Dean
The Thunderbird special valve covers can be fitted to any yblock, so not a sure tell. The VIN will indicate what the car should have, not what it does have.
He was happy with it. The delivery company wouldn't Bring it all the way north where he lives . Its at my brothers 100 miles south of us. It was raining there and before I got home we had 5 inches of snow and crap roads most of the way. He decided to leave the car there for now and have my brother put a dual master on it. Good thing! He lost brakes on a 49 Lincoln he had just bought several years ago because of the single bowl master.( he managed not to wreck it) Dean
