Correct 1979 Mirrors ???

Can anyone verify if these are correct mirrors for a 1979 F-series truck. The 1979 Brochure cover shows a similar mirror. Is the "Number Dummy" still here, I'm sure he would know.......

1977 type 9s on my '77 look different to me.

I added the extra base inserts. That's rain on it.

I fully agree, they do not look like the type 9 I see on most trucks. The 79 brochure mirror is different than the 78 brochure, which is why I'm asking. I have a guy who said he removed that mirror from the truck he purchsed new in 79.

I learned a long time ago you can't go by brochures. the pictures are all pre-production.

I think, but I don't know, those mirrors with the lip around the outside and more square back started in 1980, BUT , I have heard guys say they did have them on late 1979's. I can't say for sure, but they don't look right to me I wouldn't use them.

There are TWO different size type 9 (Mirror heads sizes). 5 1/4 x 8 1/4 and 6x9. The 6x9 are a little bit flat backed.

5 1/4 x 8 1/4 on the left and 6x9 on the right. See what I mean about a bit flat backed?

Maybe the Free Wheeling package (?) had them in black color and they had a plastic mirror head. I got a 79 Bronco that had a black set.
Small one the glass mounts to mirror head. On the larger 6x9 the glass mounts in a plastic gasket.

The mirror tention bar.

gest rusty under there.

Next thing you know you tap one or think you need to adjust it and bam the tention tab breaks. Some studs mount with a phillips screw and are flush to the under side of the bracket.

Inventory # are probably old. Genuine Ford Parts:
D6TZ-17696-A .. TYPE 9 Low Mount Swing-Lock Mirror dealer installed kit / Obsolete
Last MSRP each: $58.33 / Dealer net cost each: $35.00.
TIM SHORT FORD in Hazard KY = 606-436-5239.
NOS PARTS LTD in Waxahachie TX has 1 = 972-937-2201.
KAMA OBSOLETE PARTS in East Bethel MN has 1 = 763-434-0123.
IPSWICH FORD in Ipswich MA has 2 = 978-356-9323.
TALLAPOOSA FORD in Tallapoosa AL has 2 = 256-234-3432

Had little one.

I put the 6x9's on here.
