1994 7.3 IDI-ATS Turbo 103K original mile A/T and the radio works!
This is my daughters truck and obviously it doesn't get driven much. I used it about a month ago now and coming home around midnight and the tranny started slipping and if I pulled over and pulled the fuse on the trans mission, a 20 Amp large one, waited 5 minutes and but it back in, it cleared it and allowed me to drive another couple miles before the trans disappeared. After about three of these stops I called a rollback. I brought it home and next day tried to jump out the terminals to make the dash light flash, nothing. I hooked both a test light and a DVM up and nothing. I don't seem to have the basic computer anymore making me think the problem is mostly electrical.
Any ideas where to start will be greatly appreciated.
Remove the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and open it up. Are there damaged/leaking components? That's a likely cause. It could also be a wiring or relay problem that is not supplying power to the TCM.
If you leave that fuse out, you should have 2nd gear in both the manual 1/2 positions and then once the truck is up to speed, let it rev a bit extra cus there will be no 3rd, it will shift to OD when you shift to D position, where you could have driven it home.... If there's no mechanical issue with the trans, which it doesn't sound like. I'd inform you about the '94 IDI trans control units in case you end up needing one, but you've already got a '94. Just be sure if you need one to replace it with another '94 unit.
Well this wont hurt to post here so you'll have the part numbers.
