transmission surge to 3rd gear

my 10 speed transmission seems to surge between gears 2and 3 mostly on down grades. Could this be due to trans fluid temp

Sounds like a shift flare. A flash may help it, but more than likely it's a cdf drum, which requires a rebuild or replacement.

Thank you for response. Not familiar with term(flare may help). Also it seems to happen when fluid temp is low and only happens once initially. Was hoping to hear needing a fluid change would do it.

A fluid and filter change might help. DON'T DO A FLUSH. Just a pan drop, filter change, and refill. Mine took 7 quarts. Motorcraft ULV. Pretty straight forward job if you plan to do it yourself. A few hundred bucks is reasonable at a shop. Some have posted as much as $800 at dealerships... Rip off. Shop around.

What model/vintage vehicle and how many miles on it? That would help us get in the right territory.
