Never looked... 8th? what kind of girlie pass are you making? Foot to the floor (proper passing technique) at 55-60 gets me a lot lower than 8th I am sure. No highway speed passing for a couple of days, we have us a blizzard here....
Passing gear? WTH? I have not heard that term since my Dad downshifted a 1977 Ford LTD with a 400ci Modified with a C-6 from 3rd gear to 2nd gear passing someone on a 2 lane road heading north out of Madison Indiana I do not think the term 'passing gear' is relevant anymore. The 10 speed transmission will downshift according to the position of the go pedal and the amount of power required by the engine to get the truck/combined weight to a speed you are requesting. The options are nearly limitless. Philip.
Perhaps, but it is way more dramatic than saying, "It downshifting to 5th gear."
It's like parking brakes. When I learned to drive ( yes, Ford did make trucks back then) we didn't call them parking brakes. That was an emergency brake!
I love these super duties as much as the next guy. But a 6.7 super duty only runs a high 15-second quarter mile. Thats pedal to the metal start to finish…..and that’s slowwwwwww.
Not exactly the type of acceleration that’s going to have you passing people without dropping a gear or more. That is unless the car next to you is going slow not accelerating.
Now these things will pull a house over but let’s not get to thinking they’re fast by any definition of the word. Especially without shifting out of top gear they’re far from passing much other than another truck without a downshift.

You do realize that "no downshifting needed" was a hyperbole. Even so, a quarter mile time is not relative as the diesel is torque managed in the lower gears. Just saying, as I don't think the diesel is much if any faster when passing unless both are pulling a load.
