Hello everyone,
I was looking at some pages in the Internet and i found two different 4 Speed shift *****. One has the reverse gear down on the right side and other ones has the reverse gear also on the right side but in the top besides the 3th gear. My one has it besides the 4th gear and i drove it already a few times backwards my truck .
Lots of greetings Alexander Oehmen
Did Ford ever offer a close ratio truck 4 speed option,4.56 1st gear instead of super low 6.68, similar to the NP 435CR Dodge-GMC-Chevy option offered in the mid to late 60's?
you can put a 5 speed in and get your 4 usable gears and granny gear too! I put a 5 in my old 63 f350 and what a difference it makes when hauling a load.

Great alternative, but we need more details on which box you used. It's not the 60's when you could of special ordered one when new, or went to the Ford parts man an order a brand new 5 speed overdrive Clark.
Sadly, we live in a different world now days. When I did it in the mid 80's, I went to my local junk yard and took a 5 spd, and 9 quart oil pan, and big 13" flywheel off a school bus. It all bolted up to a 390 I was having rebuilt. The fly wheel needed balancing, and of coarse the drive shaft needed attention.
The truck then got a chevy rear end, and international front axle to get 8 bolt wheels, all from the same junk yard. I hauled stuff way to heavy, so it then got 2 more leafs at all 4 corners, and 5/8 studs on the wheels. It got to the point of, I can haul it, but I can't stop it....So I finally went to a bigger truck, only to find out that then you have to argue with the DOT as to weather or not you are commercial. I'm a guy with a diesel pickup and a trailer now
Thanks for the updated info! The easier way to do these swaps was definitely back in another time. Larger 60's F 600- F 700 trucks would be would be great donors, if you can find them being parted out at lower mileage. Unfortunately, even in these models the overdrive trans was rare too, most of the buyers in these models ordered the 2 speed rear axle. What would be really nice is the aftermarket to reproduce the old Watson 2 speed auxiliary box that bolted to frame in between the driveshaft.
