Wow! I can't believe you found that. Thank you so much. I have been searching forever. Now I just need to confirm the bulb is not too long to fit in.
Thank you!!
Your welcome! I saw this a few years ago but couldnt remember who stocked them until earlier this morning when I finally remembered Speedway had them.
You mentioned maybe you could have an issue with the bulb length and it maybe bottoming out in the coupler? There is another one they stock, but it might be too long for you, and it doesnt look like you could ground it. (I have seen where guys drill a small, limited depth hole in one of the wrench flats of the sender and use a short metal screw to attach a ground wire there.) This one is a little cheaper too, not quiet as fancy, but could still be functional.
I finally got this sorted out. It is not installed in the coolant hose yet but it is assembled.
Since the temp sender was 3/8" a 3/8" to 3/8" adapter didn't work as the bulb was too large. I found coolant hose insert with 1/2" NPT threads and used a 3/8" to 1/2" adapter. Perfect fit.
The short story is on a '55 6 volt system the only temp sender that works on the 223 with the stock gauge is the stock 3/8" inch one. I still have to confirm 100% that it works once I get it installed in the next couple of days.
Honestly the part was way overpriced for what it is but it will gent the job done and I don't have the skills or tools to make one up myself.
Glad you got it sorted out. Its amazing what Summit has.
About the price, my Dad had a saying about that kind of thing. "The cost is soon forgotten if it fixes your problem". It's true.....unless we're talking my truck! 😄
All installed and working. The head temp at the location of the original thermostat runs around 155* at idle, the center of the head is considerably hotter at 230* and at the temp sender it shows around 145*. The outdoor temp is around 68*.
The needle is just below the center on the gauge so I think I am getting a good enough reading to know when I may be having issues. If it climbs much above 3/4 it's time to pull over.
