Collasped hose normal?

I noticed yesterday when installing the Derringer that my upper radiator hose was collapsed. This is on a cold engine. When running at temp the hose is fine.

Doesn’t sound normal to me. I haven’t looked at my system too close but suspect you have a reservoir cap that’s not opening to prevent vacuum or the hose is kinked that’s supposed to allow coolant back into the system from the reservoir.

Had this on both 6.7's Ive owned. New coolant reservoir cap will fix it.

Have a 2016 6.7 that has always done it, never seemed to effect anything and never thought twice about it. May be worth looking into I suppose.

I saw this on my 15 and changed the cap on the degas bottle and was fine for a couple days then it went back to sucking it closed. I talked to my Ford diesel guy and he said it was normal.

Normal or common? They dont come like that from the factory...could be a small pressure leak in a coolant fitting or something?

Common... The issue is typically with the cap. As the cooling system goes thru a heat cycle the air expands and pressure is created and as the cooling system cools the air retracts creating a vacuum. Mine did this a few years back and never created a issue. If it bothers you replace the degass bottle cap.

Coming from the GM world, a collapsed coolant hose on a duramax is a good sign the head gaskets are blown.

On one of A Rod's videos on youtube he commented on the collapsed hose saying something like congrats you have a nicely sealed cooling system. Mine has done this as long as I've had it so I thought it was normal.

It would appear that all of these trucks do this. I replaced my cap and it went back to a collapsed hose anyway.

Good to know. I thought it was odd, but looking at the length of hose and that there is no spring inside to prevent collapse since it is a return hose, I figured I would ask. I had to pop a small hose off the degas to run the harness for the Derringer and it sucked in air restoring the hose. Does sound like the vent in the cap isn't working. I also need to look into the coolant, I thought it is supposed to be yellow coolant, but I think it is green.

My 2019 F450 did this also for the 2 and a half years I had it. Never was a problem.
