I’ll try all the different variations You guys are mentioning later on today when I have a few minutes. But the little button does show push it twice.
Did your truck come from Ford like that? May be an aftermarket add on? If so that might explain the differing operation/experience than the rest of us.

Going to guess that truck has the pro power option.
My 24 Lariat
wow that’s crazy. So the trucks without pro power have a different tailgate release than the ones that have it. Seems silly to add additional components to serve the same purpose.
Thanks for sharing. I’d love to know the reasoning behind this.
In my September built 2024 Lariat, this is what the tailgate release button looks like. I have not tried to open the tailgate with the transmission in any gear other than park, so I can't say if it will open in another gear. The tailgate is only power release, not power open and close, although after hitting the release button twice the tailgate does drop open on its own.
I have to hit the button twice, as it shows, and it will only work if the drivers side door is open. Many times I have pulled into my driveway, put the transmission in park, and hit the release button to drop the tailgate. It will not work until I open the door. Once the door has been opened I can hit the release button twice the tailgate pops open.
*Edit*
After re-reading some of the posts on here, maybe it's not that my door has to be open. Maybe it just needs to be unlocked. I never thought of that. One day when I was messing with it I just stumbled onto the fact that it worked every time my door was open. I'll have to try it now without opening the door but just unlocking it.

I thought the same thing way back with my 18 in regards to the door being open. Took me some time before I haphazardly figured it out myself that it was the door being locked.
What I’m gathering is that if you have a power up/down tailgate, as long as the truck is in park, it is a one push release whether the doors are locked or unlocked.
If you have a manual tailgate with just power release, then you have to be stopped, have the doors unlocked, potentially need the driver door open, and press the release twice.
