Power Tailgate issue

Went out this morning and unlocked truck with keypad. Walked to rear of truck, hit the tailgate butting twice, would not open. Tried a couple more times, no luck. Locked truck, unlocked truck, still no luck. grabbed remote, used that to open tailgate, works fine. Tried other remote, opens tailgate fine. This has got me baffled unless the push button on tailgate is faulty. Anyone ever have this happen?

Hi there. Feel free to send us a DM with your vehicle's VIN and mileage. We'd be happy to look into getting assistance for you.

Hey Scott, yes that one works as well. Just not on the tailgate itself.

sounds like it is isolated to the button itself then. Must have bad contacts or maybe got wet at some point.

Here is a thread where the OP has the same symptoms. Unfortunately the OP didn't update with the fix (I hate that) but it includes a link to another thread with more owners experiencing the same symptoms. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-not-open.html

I have had this happen on my 2023 F250 too. No rhyme or reason why it doesn't work some days. Dealer could not find an issue either. Good luck!

I briefly read through two threads. I saw chaffed wires, shorted wires, loose connections being found as possible causes. Replacement of the switch looked to have been done but didn't fix the issue in some cases.

Yeah I seen those as well. Appreciate the comments. I may take the access plate off and take a peak inside. Will for sure update this if I find my issue.

Update: Got the truck into the dealer finally after 2 attempts. They found 2 wiring harnesses corroded. They said it looked like car wash detergent inside the tailgate. I asked for photos, but the tech didn't get any. I plan to seal up the access hole into the tailgate to keep that from happening again. Just thought I'd post this in case any else has this issue. Warranty covered the $690 bill.....
