Driver side door lock

This is my driver side door latch, with the cover removed after prying back the tabs. How does the cam lock work , to lock the door?

You generally pull the inside handle to open the door and push to lock it from the inside. I believe that is your drivers door and passenger side has the provision for a key..?

Not for the first generation F series... From the inside, the doors are locked by lifting the handle. One should also note that the outside key and the inside lock mechanism do not work together - they are independent locks, so if you lock the door from the interior, you can't unlock if from the exterior with a key.

The inside handle bar simply slides into the latch, interfering with the outside handle tabs to keep the handle from turning.

Thanks. I understand rotating inside handle up locks driver door, but what role does the cam lo k have?

My experience have been with the 53-56 trucks and was just assuming the earlier ones worked some what on the same principle . I believe Wayne answered your question. I'll remain quiet...
