Are locking hubs interchangeable between a dana 50 and dana 60? I found a set of Warn hubs on AutoZone for $170, which is a hell of alot cheaper than everyone else. Their website says it fits a 97 f250, but not a 97 f350. I have looked into it and people say that locking hubs are interchangeable. So that being said, is AutoZone wrong? Or will they actually fit? The part number is Warn 20990
According to the Warn website that part number is for a Dana 44 axle.
man that is strange. I have always had issues with AutoZone and getting parts. Usually they mess up my truck because its a 97, so I even put in my vehicle as a 96 and it still said it would fit.
The aftermarket locking hubs for a 99-04 are also the same part as the D60/D50HD so long as the snap ring for the axle shaft of the '97 and earlier axle is used.

I check multiple sources especially the manufacturer if possible. Their system probably isn’t smart enough to sort out between a Dana 44HD and the Dana 50/60. This is what you need
if your looking for premium hubs.

Same HD (bigger) hub fits clear back to the eighties
I have picked up a couple pairs of OEM Warn hubs and a set of Superwinch from the junkyard. I didn’t like the Superwinch hubs so they are boxed up in the shed. You mistyped 70’s

A lot of F-250s had Dana 44s rather than Dana 50s.

This is true, only pre-1992.
In 1992, with the introduction of the 9th gen, 99% (speculation, it's probably even higher) of all f250's where the f350 HD platform, which all received the D50 front axle in 4wd form. The f250 LD trucks w/ the lighter front end and semi floating rear, in this era are very, very, very rare. I've only seen two folks post photos of one on here over the years. Whereas, back in the 7th and 8th gen both, I believe, Ford would put in a mismatch of d44/d50 stuff and if I recall, it was sometimes? dependent on if the truck was single vs supercab or some sort of mess?

gm history with Dana 44hd is annoying.
Here’s a 1980 gmc with Dana 44hd. The the 1977.5-1980 gmc and Chevy models with the same locking mechanism across half ton and 3/4 and 3/4 >8600 gvw Not sure of 1 ton(Dana 60)
