So I have just pulled the engine from my 61 f100, it was sold to me as the correct engine, a 292 y block, can anyone help to identify it as I’m getting no where with the block stamp.
Thanks in advance,
Ash Main block stamp on the passenger side under head Another stamp on the back of the block near distributor
Does the truck still have the aluminum warranty plate attached to the glove box door? If so, post a pick here to be decoded for engine ID and other fun info
That’s a Y-Block. Several clues : crossover exhaust pipe, and distributor at rear of engine are two.Should be a 292 c.i. if original, but changes do get made over the years.
Those are just engineering ID castings - technically not stampings since those are done after casting. They don't identify the exact year it was cast but the ECG is an earlier mid-50s block. 1955-1957 era. The blocks also had a casting date. On my 292 it is above the starter area on the passenger's side just below the head about centered front to rear. Cast upside down so I had to stand on my head to take the picture.
4B24 - First 4 = 1964. B is month of February and 24 is the day. So 2/24/1964 as a short date. My 1964 was built in March 1964.
If you pull the valve covers and clean the tops of the heads some you should also find date castings. Heads can be swapped so may not match at all or it may be close to the engine casting date and give you additional information. The heads from my truck as examples - both are also 4B24.
The Y-block came in a 272, 292 and 312 cubic inches. This block in your truck is not a 312 since that would be either ECZ or EDB prefixes.
Thanks for posting that. Great reference. Good ole Mummert. I knew the 1962-1964 trucks should have the C2AE-6015-C I.D. like my truck has, but I wasn't sure what 1961 had. C1AE-R makes perfect sense.
Ok so I thought it might be the 272, especially with the ecg, issue is it’s a 61 truck so a 50s engine isn’t ideal for the all original restoration I’m trying to do
