No It is not a Y- block, my bad. When I first started playing with engines I was looking for a 390, old guy said they looked like a Y. That has stuck with me, but until now I never knew they had an actual Y-block series. FE’s are just a Y-block design.
Not off to a good start here, 3 posts in and I look pretty dumb. But I learned something.
More of “it fits” than a disguise. Air filters were always a little tight, you can see the bent under firewall i tweaked. I had plans to finish the snorkels somewhere into cooler air. That motor had just about every carb from a 350 Holley to a 6v. Even had a Holley pro-jection on it. Gas milage never changed no mater what was feeding it. 750dp in that pic. Motocraft 4v worked well.
First Guy did a lot of work putting the 390 in the F150 4x4 then puled it out shortly after and started putting in a 460. Not sure what his reason was other than he got a deal on the 460.
The other 390 in a 2wd f150 would be hard on back tires!!
If a real nice body and interior became available I would be very tempted to put mine back on the road. I’d go with the shorty cast FE manifolds and a new EFI this time. I didn’t gain any power or fuel economy with the 2000 7700 that replaced it.
