I'm a newbie here and I'm pretty sure this has been covered many times before. I'm about to lift the cab from my 72 f100. I have a 1 ton hoist on a 2 ton I-beam trolley that's about 9 1/2 feet from the floor to bottom of the hoist cable. I know about using the cab mounting bolts but the front of the floor and mounts are so rusted I can't use them. I've read about using straps around the cab, but I'm afraid with the floor so badly rusted straps may break through and cause more damage. I've also read using a 4x4 through the door openings and lift from the top, but was told that could warp the top. So I was thinking of leaving the doors mounted and using a 2x12 through the doors to lift it, but I don't know if that would be any better. If anyone has any good suggestions could you let me know. I going to do a frame off restro on the truck.
I just put a strap around the roof and lift from there. Of course, my cab is completely stripped down. If you have all the hardware still on the cab, doors, seats etc, it may get a bit heavy.
Thank you. Now I know which way to do it. At least my hoist is remote control electric. My trolley is on a 24 ft I-beam built into the steel trusses of my shop, so I can pick it up move it to the side and set it down. No moving the frame ll around.
