56 dome light wiring?
56 dome light wiring?
i have factory light and door jam switches and everything works...i have a GM headlight switch. Has any1 run this setup before if so how did you wire it?
if not is there a later f100 switch(with the d1 tab on it) 60s 70s that you can recommend

I am in the process of doing the same thing, adding the Dome light using the stock F-100 headlight switch. As you mentoined on the stock unit there is a tab connector that is fused for the dome light. But since I am lazy, I am just going to add an inline fuse and take it off the Batt terminal of the ignition switch. I might change that plan if I find one could turn the dome light on by twisting the stock headlight switch all the way clockwise. But I am not sure the stock units are capable of that in 56 or earlier years.
About using a GM style headlight switch. Yes you should be able to do that. We just need to know what the switch looks like
Better yet the year, and model of the car it was used with.

I dont have a stock switch plus i didnt want the smaLL fuse in the back
the light gets positive power on fords/GM switch grounds it out to work
ive been looking and 65-76 f100 switch will work if the screw part threads in the front

If using the GM headlight switch you could connect one leg of the dome light to a 12 volt fused source. Then run the other leg to the door switches and the dome light terminal on your GM headlight switch. The other terminal on your door switches would then be grounded. Each switch would simply ground the circuit turning on your dome light.
It's so much simpler and safer that way. I'm pretty sure that GM light switch would be set up that way, as a ground switch and not a power supply.

Yes, I used a GM switch. I moved the **** from the factory switch to the GM switch handle too.
