78 F100
Interesting note is that the supercab 4x4 1/2 ton trucks were still leaf spring front suspension but with 5 lug wheels and 1/2 ton brakes, whereas all other 1/2 ton 4x4 trucks of this vintage were coil sprung front axles.
Also all supercab 4x4 trucks were 155" wheelbase...no "shortbed" 4x4 trucks were produced in 78/79.
Thanks for the data. I had never seen a 4x4 shortbed supercab in 78-79, but I was not looking for them just trying to survive. Kind of like the song by Jamie Johnson " you should have seen it in color!". So I guess the 79 supercab short bed 2 wheel drive was some what rear too? Maybe 4000-5000 units?? Cheryl and I and and the kids liked that 79! Our oldest son drove it to Sea world in Geauga Ohio and the auto transmission went south about 10 miles before camp. I spent the week trying to get the truck repaired on a budget, before cell phones and Uber! The kids went to the parks each day. They thought it was the best vacation they ever had. I did not to go camping for years!

So I have been looking for a 79 truck project for about 6-7 years. When Cheryl let me build the shop I started looking, mainly Facebook finds in the area. I showed her a couple and she rolled her eyes and said " we had those when they were new!" I guess since the 79 was our first new truck purchase, something still stirs!

Chris and Cheryl

Yes still out here. This may take a while. We are busy in the shop making maple syrup products for upcoming events. Weather is going to get cold again. The 78 waits in a state far away. I am not in a rush about that. These are expensive toys for old boys. If it is meant to be it will happen. But thinking ahead which is a habit of mine I have several trucks projects that I might work on!
Thanks for checking in on me. I know not very exciting with no pictures. I may put in some of our current toys? If that's OK?
Oh yeah here is the one that got away from me about 4 years ago. My butt is still sore from kicking myself!

Here is our 65 Mercury Comet Caliente

Our 32 ton and a half dump in its work clothes:

Hope things are good in Ford Land!

The nice 78 F-100, I was interested in sold and the owner got what he was looking for. It was a good experience. I think it was a good truck. Maybe I will find something near home that I can drool on!
Thanks to all of you for the support.Regards,
