78 F100
At least for a fellow FTE Missouri state chapter member (up by St Louis) that bought a rusty 1959 parts truck, he had quite the run around from all the people that are suppose to be the ones to insp it. Finially got a local sheriff to come to his house, it was non op and already dragged off the trailer, so not like he could just tow it over there to them.

I am going to muddy the waters and jump in the creek. Ok maybe jump in the creek and then the water will be muddy? Anyway. I find a truck a long way from home. Might be a two day trip to go see it, and get back home. Yes that's the right thing to do I know. But the wife cant travel good and needs care 24/7. How many guys buy a truck without going to touch and drive it? Yes for sure some risk there. If you do buy them and have it shipped what are some of the big things you have the owner show you or do? I know there is no correct answer and everyone will have their opinions. But just getting some ideas. These units are expensive toys! Sorry I move pretty slow on these big, old man, toy purchases. If it gets sold before I get there it was meant to happen. I have plenty of other holes to cram a bunch of money into!

Also on shipping vs driving a 50 year old unit home? There is some cost in getting one shipped in an enclosed trailer also timing. I have a goose neck car hauler that could transport a truck but still would need help with the wife. Just looking for ideas, suggestions, thoughts, concerns, recommendations? I know another can of worms! Thanks in advance!

Chris and Cheryl
I am going to try to use face time to review the 78 truck. That may help a lot in looking at some of the details. Thanks for your support. I know its not a great thread when there are no pictures or details.
Hope things are good in Ford truck land.

Things are great here.
And so is the truck I bought from the Fordland Ford dealership.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I like the Ford Land sign and dealer ship badge. I had not thought about that at all. I will consider your viewing and shipping suggestions on an old 78 Ford truck or any other potential toys. Our current antique truck and car have been purchased within 30 miles of home. I was not quick to move on either of these. Actually hoping the owners found a buyer before we got serious. Neither one of these were advertised on line or anywhere in the vast public eye. If they would have been wildly advertised, I probably would not own them. So I tend not to be in a hurry on toys. Have I missed some? Yes did some good ones get away? Yes.

Re-stamping a VIN correctly is very difficult. One has to have a kit that matches the font type and point size. Most difficult to reproduce is the five pointed stars that come before and after the alphanumeric characters. That star is not found in most stamping kits.

Here is just one of the reasons we ended up there. https://www.pearlharboraviationmuseum.org/
Fun town to shop in.
Yes I think I would be comfortable in the town of Tightwad also!
Winter weather hangs on in our area. Not terrible just cold and raw. The perfect weather to be out hanging lines, tapping maples and making maple syrup. Cheryl and I have made syrup in the area for 25+ years and this will be the first season that we are not tapping any trees. Things change in our lives as we age.We will stay connected to the maple industry by offering very good syrup from local producers. That will keep me busy in the maple kitchen as the truck saga continues. Our son may be traveling in the area of the truck at the end of the month and it would work out he could be my eyes and ears on the old 78 Ford. Adam has reviewed several trucks for me in the Denver Col area over the last few years. The last one was the 72 Lima Bean and Cream long bed. (a thread on here in that section of years) It needed more love than I was willing to offer it. As mentioned, it sure helps to get up close to these trucks, as the wrinkles show up more. Heck even I look ok at 40 feet!

Sorry to hear you won't be drawing down any sugar water of your own this year...but after 25 yrs maybe a break isn't so bad.
Your truck avatar question? So did they make a 79 F100 supercab short bed 4x4? Just wondering, its what old folks do? We had a new 79 F100 supercab short bed 2 wheel drive. We were so strapped for cash with three kids We were lucky to be able to buy a new Ford truck. I remember we bought a $7000 hat and got a free Ford truck with it! As we drove about ten miles towards home Cheryl realized there was almost no fuel in the tank. We pulled in to the Skat gas station in town and filled up. Gas was I think 75 cents per gallon and I had no idea if we were going to be able to afford driving the new truck with the 300 -6 cyl engine and automatic. This was Cheryl's truck and she loved it! It had the large heavy bumper on the rear end. The truck kept the kids safe in the back seat of that supercab. Cheryl was rear-ended by a car and the only damage to the F100 was a damaged rear bumper. The car that hit her was totaled. No one was hurt just shaken. Ford wins again! We drove that truck 100,000 miles with a used engine at about 90K miles. Our salted roads ruined the bed of the truck. Second engine failure forced us to let the F100 go to a new home. We now had 4 kids and a house and had to wait a couple years before the next 1993 super cab Ford ( Teal color ) came home with us. Another great truck!

Chris and Cheryl
