The first thing you ned to do is find and check the serial number on the frame. It will be on the upper frame rail, on the passenger side about where the alternator is (or would be if you have a V-8).
Scrub it hard with sandpaper or a wire brush.
If the frame serial number matches, then the title is good; someone changed the door or the door tag - both of which are easy to do.
See if the frame serial number matches the title or not and that will tell us what to do next.
The F25 denotes a F250 4x4, the F10 denotes a F100 4x2. I will allow the others to inform you more, but on the older trucks the VIN was also stamped on the top of the passenger side frame rail between the front axle and the radiator support. You should also be able to tell by the number of bolts on your wheels, with 5 being the F100 and 8 being the F250.
hey Mike...
I dont mean to be a wise crack but I think you made a typo
F25 is a 2wd f250
F26 is a 4wd f250

livewire:
did the guy you got it from own any other trucks? he may have picked up the wrong title? it possible.... give him a call and politely ask him if he might have done just that. If he did he will greatly apreciate it later!
It's storming here and i'm out there trying to find numbers! Die Hard or what?
It is 5 lug so that tells me right away the title isnt right!
I crawled under and looked with a mirror and flash light on the frame starting from the front of the bed all the way to the end of the frame to the front where the bumper mounts on the passenger side and there is no vin.
My truck was advertised and sold as a 1969....but in fact it was a '67....the passenger frame rail stamp is the next place to look....but mine was stamped sideways and only the first 5 0r so digits are readable (and barely at that)....there is apparenly anoth stamp under the cab about where the seat is....again cleaning is required and then use of a mirror to see.....I haven't been able to see mine yet no matter what.
try this... grab a wire brush, scraper, rag and some sort of degreaser and nest yourself up under the hood on the passenger side of the engine to keep dry...
look beside the starter on top of the frame rail between to holes, carefully clean and look closely. you might also want a flashlight. they are sometimes so light that the paint covers it over and makes it not readable.
According to the book, your F100 was made in October 1967...which makes it a 68 year model... so it's a 1968 not a 1972.
OK first of all if I'm reading your user name right your in the military!? If so Thank You for protecting our rights!
Second, the info you gave on my truck, is that decoded from the last VIN i posted? If it truely is a 68' that makes me even happier : )
Also the moron i bought the truck from cant find the title. He has like 50 vehicles on his property and none of them are regstered to him. I think he was trying to start a salvage yard.
So hence the problem no title no license. Is there still a way to get this thing legaly licensed or should i stop putting money into it now? By the way I live in Arkansas if it matters on laws.
Thanx Everyone, And GOD be with all of you ...Happy Turkey Day!
You can do a title search for the 2 vin #'s you have through dmv/mva.Then hope the last registered owner is still alive and have them get a duplicate title for you.Problem is you have 2 trucks put together,so you might need to have documented as such. What I do is not what I recommend.I pop plate off door and off fire-wall and use what ever title I have laying around. It's hard to keep track of all the used parts I may have used to put truck together.
Yes, stop spending money on it until you know you can get a title. If you can, stop the check if you paid the guy with one. Talk to DMV and see what to do.
I had a friend who did a frame off resto on a 57 chev only to find out it had been stolen 5 years before - the original owner got the car, my friend was out all the cost to restore it, plus what he paid for it. He could have taken the guy he bought it from to court and got his money back, but that guy was long gone.
