Hi all. I'm looking for help to identify a suitable replacement EEC. I'll throw in some further notes as I have no post history, new member. Backstory: My truck started misfiring/backfiring on the way home from work a while back. Risked it and limped home. Idled for about 45 seconds after I parked and it shut off on its own. Solid CEL, self test won't engage. I hear a click and fuel pump primes when I try to start self test, but nothing else happens. I'm suspecting my issues as well as the faulire to start self test are due to EEC going out. Replaced EEC relay which was slightly melted. At this point in time, truck is starting and idling just fine. After warming up, I can step up to fairly high rpm (no tach) and she isn't shutting off like before. Further notes: Truck at times does shut off immediately after cranking, very up/down surge/die idle when firat starting the truck. Fans speed up intermittently as well at startup.
Looks like this capacitor is starting to leak. Notice the bright green buildup just under the right side as well as the brown staining going towards black chip to right.

I believe that image is from a related post by @VGVForrest
The board looks clean, but that one cap is known to go out. It could possibly still be defective, just not obvious sign. The relays on your truck are a known problem and there are a few write ups on swapping to a newer style. With it looking melted, you verified the wiring isn’t compromised? Still cannot pull codes after changing ecm relay?
Which cap is known to go out? Maybe I can test it. I'll attach an image of the relay harness. Everything is still making contact, but will replace ASAP. And that's correct, still no codes just a solid light.
Rough looking! You can probe the wires about 6” away from the connector and check each one for continuity while wiggling the connector to see if it breaks. This is your pic, I made sure haha!
Tried going off the dash, also used the test light method. I just ordered a set of replacement caps, not sure when they'll be in. I'll pull the EEC back out when I can and put a light behind it, really had my hopes up she'd run fine after replacing the relay lol. As far as a potential replacement, where my sticker says E9TFAR1A, that's what I'd be looking for right? I see a Cardone Reman labeled E9T-FARA.
After fuel primes it, fuel pump shuts off. I ran into a crank but no start issue a while back. ICM and coil were both fried. After that, truck ran great for a while. Maybe a week. No CEL, nothing. Then I ran into the current issues.

What brand ICM did you use?
Also, on your original post, at the very end you said the fans intermittently speed up when starting. What fans?
