To: Carfreak's question about removing guides.
I did not remove the felt guides. With the window up and the access panel removed from the tailgate, I laid on my back in the bed and stuck my head into the access opening and was able to locate the area binding to make the repair. Fortunately, this was the driver's side which has a larger opening.
