I'm refurbishing the doors on my 78 F150. I've replaced all the rubber, channel felt and seals and lubricated all the moving parts. The window moves better than it did, but it still not quite right and rolls up a little wonky. I noticed the window regulator roller does not roll. Are these supposed to roll or just slide? Any advice on how to get it to roll? I can turn it with a pair of pliers, but not by hand.
You mean this part? I seem to remember that it will/should spin. If not, it will just wear down the plastic over time. Are you sure you do not have the bottom of the division bar to far back and making the glass to tight in the new seals? I think the one bolt at the bottom has some adjustment?
Ford sold new ones, where you grind the old one out, and bolt the new one in
Some of the newer ones are square and do not roll at all, just slide in the channel
I bought replacements when I found the channel that it rolls in was rusted through. But I then found that the gear mechanism in the driver's window was bad and replaced both mechanisms. The new device comes with new rollers.
The replacement from LMC, as well as the one from DC, are the type with a large pin/rivet that holds the roller to the adjustment arm, and you are supposed to flair the roller end of the pin like the head of a rivet. I'd like it better if it were a machine screw or bolt with washer and nut. It would not be easy to flare it inside the door and would, imo, mean removing the mechanism in order to pound/flare the end correctly. Flare or flair this.
I was thinking the replacements had to be flared. Appreciate the confirmation. I'm going to try and get mine rolling (after the snow storm). If I can't, then I'll buy the replacements.
I have 2 new ones with the pins, from LMC that I am not going to use since they came on the new control mechanisms I bought. I could drop them in the mail to you, if you want. PM me.
