Hi Bill, thanks you always provide needed info. Yeah , it's not the roller I think it's in the "gear box" for lack of a better word. It didn't work when I bought truck I lubed it and worked it and it freed up but now it Catches when rolling up. Even on bench it catches.
I think the problem might be in Gear box that the screwdriver is pointing to
Hi resonateur, I think it's in the enclosed gear where the handle shaft comes through.. I'll drill the 3 rivets out and see what's going on in there tomorrow. The rest of the unit looks fine. I'll let you know tomorrow .
Mulegal:
First remove the coiled return spring. Once you drill out the rivets, you can clean out the old grease and inspect the parts. In order to get to the third rivet (whether to drill it out, or to re-peen it) you will need to drill and punch out the stop pin. That will allow you to rotate the toothed section to expose that rivet. Once you reassemble and peen all the rivets, the stop pin needs to be re-welded into place. The position of that pin is really the difference between the right and left regulators, so observe it's position for replacement. Unless there is something broken inside, a good cleanout and relube should do the trick. I think there is a ring spacer inside as well, and that piece could be broken. There is really nothing else that would cause binding. Note: don't use lithium grease when you reassemble it. Use a good quality wheel bearing grease...that type won't harden like lithium grease. I have the correct rivets in stainless if you need them. Any other help you need, let me know.
I did both mine and yes they work fine ,I did mine because the handle spline were stripped I had to put door open handle mechanism in also ,everything in mine is new and boy it's nice all new rubber and felt they feel new no more rattling
Resnateur.. thanks for all the detail and encouragement. The spring is what makes me pause. Springs have a way of behaving badly when released in my experience. The drilling and rewelding is fine, but the spring makes me wonder about it. Any hints on safe removal/reinstall?
the return spring is not that difficult. Pry it up over the catch with a screwdriver and stand back....not really....it will just snap open. You may need a utility hook to pull it back over the catch. Oh....and note the direction of installation/removal for the right side.
