Question Coolant Temp Sensor

Attempting to replace my coolant temp sending unit sensor on the water pump on my 96 f250 7.3. I bought part #: F1SZ-10884-A - from Ford Motorcraft.

The new sensor looks much different than the one currently in the water pump, photos below. The new sensor does not fit in the current waterpump; it's too wide/larger diameter and doesn't thread into the top of the waterpump.

What's also confusing is that when searching for the same part number, it returns a similar-looking sensor also made by ford motorcraft. See images below.

Can someone confirm correct part number and sensor that fits my truck?

Here are the typical ones.
Your might have been made differently as mine was.
I have seen that one before but trying to remember.

CPST14 is a common one used on pintos that could have been adapted to yours

Thank you, this is helpful. Bought the truck second hand so this is helpful while trying to troubleshoot.

The issue I'm trying to fix is the temp gauge not working. I tried grounding out the plug and cranking the engine to see if the temp gauge spiked and it didn't. Could the issue be something else? I guess at this point I might as well replace both sensors w/ OEM ones and go from there.

Could be wiring in the harness.

Got it, ya that's where my head is at now also. After thinking about the issue more, I think it is likely a problem with the harness/wiring. There's an aftermarket temp sensor wired in on the dash and that works, somewhat, not sure how accurate it is. It gets to 160 deg operating temp and sits there. So that tells me the sensor works, and I need to dive in deeper. I'm guessing the problem is somewhere between the instrument cluster and fuse box as the wiring from the engine compartment seemingly looks like it works.

I also think there's probably an issue with the thermostat being stuck open, which is why it's only getting to 160. I've read these are cold-blooded, but that seems too low. I am planning to swap in a 203 deg thermostat soon as well.
