I lost a rear line to rust a couple years ago and seeing my proportioning valve that looks like a big pile of rust makes me slightly ill. Can someone suggest a good source for a kit that they’d had success with?
i make my own lines out of alloy brake tubing. i can do a whole truck for under $100
Using nickel-copper? I have a flaring tool but thought it would be a PIA not having done a full rig before. Are there also various fitting sizes from section to section ( like into the into the proportioning valve) or are they all the same?
yea, there is a large nut used o one of the rear brake lines, but i try to keep all the line ends incase there is an oddball fitting i can just change.
Nice, thanks… seems like it worth the $100 for ease of install. I am having no luck with an OEM proportioning valve and nothing specific to the ‘97 Powerstroke, anyone have a source for that?
I bought a complete set of stainless-steel brake lines for my 97 F350 directly from Fine Line Product Information - FineLine Tube Products Inc.
They came with all the correct fittings, sized for every connection.
The longer driver-side line came folded in the box and needed to be straightened for installation. Not hard but requires careful handling.
Every piece was perfectly shaped to be an exact reproduction of the original.
You will have 30 days to inspect and install, after that you need to negotiate if you ordered the wrong lines. Customer service said that the policy was to prevent mechanics taking delivery and not installing them after months only to find they mis ordered - understandable business concern.
No rust variety of break lines in the salty winter roads of the northeast are a must.
16JB78M Brake Proportioning Valve Fits 1989-1996 Ford F250
This screws into the block to connect the rear lines to? What about the block itself, on search I find many generic disc/drum blocks but not the specific on ed I see in my truck.
Oh I know that, I was just looking for a part number for factory replacement to do when I do the brake lines, most I have seen were generic disc/drum models.
While in there, make sure you have that updated brake pressure switch. Apparently the dealer can do it free still...but most techs there were just born when the truck was built.
