WTF!?

Any backstory to this?

Were you there when it happened?

Man, that stinks.

How??? There is a fuse in that circuit (well, unless someone bypassed it or threw a 30 amp fuse in there anyway).

I was driving down the road, and started to smell something burning or real hot! I had been driving 25 miles to my house, the smell started about a half a mile from getting home. It was dark, so didn't see anything until I pulled into garage. When I got out, there was smoke billowing out of the door! I unhooked the batteries, and the smoke went away! Electrical system has not been tampered with, and fuse was still good! I've never heard of such a thing! Now I need a new VSM!

Mine is $500 too! But it was better than nothing. I got a check for $2800. I need to have the door jambs painted, had to buy new door latch, lock actuator, door latch sensor, and new weather stripping. Also found wiring connectors at a wrecking yard. Still looking for an inside door latch cable. The door panel isn't hardly hurt at all, just a little on the rear edge.

Some of the door latch and wiring pigtails might swap over from super duty trucks of the same era.

Unfortunately the rear doors themselves ( the metal parts) are Excursion specific and not shared with the four door trucks for some reason.

The door cable is excursion only too. They are longer than the truck cable.

I'm sure you already have it, but this appears to be your part number. Have your dealer do a nationwide search too. YC3Z78266A46AA

By now we have replaced some or all of the crappy door lock actuators. Do you know if it was original OEM, Motorcraft replacement, or Chinese replacement?

I replaced them once, not sure where I got them. They were NOT Ford original units!

I did search all over for that cable with no luck! I will have to go to the wrecking yards and maybe buy the whole door. I need some other misc. parts on the door that are not available either.
