Hi guys
Is anybody able to help with identifying if these steps are custom made or readily available? They are mounted to the underside of the doors. When the door is open they provide a step, which is supported by a bracket under the rocker panel. When the door closes they simply slide under the chassis.
That's a fantastic, understated design. Why don't we ever see these? At least I haven't. Seems like you could definitely fab that. Might not be as polished, but very cool. OK, I've cluttered up enough threads for one day with randomness.
They are awesome...but it you really off road your 4wd, you can bend the bracket that attached to the rocker very easy, along with the door bracket. Also when the door is closed and the "step" part is under the truck, if I remember right is not realty supported and can catch on stuff when off roading.
Check out my thread from 2020 regarding the manufacturer of these steps for Ford. I was able to locate the BMC WG-173 part on Ebay very reasonably priced relative to the FORD D3TZ-9920092-A part number.
Second attempt to get the picture showing the step on my 77 F-150 Passenger side. Photo might spark some ideas. Fabricator friend of mine made the step, mounted to the frame and used existing holes, wanted to avoid drilling new holes.
