I have a 2009 F150 with the 5.4 triton that I'm working on for a friend, the way it was running it sounded like bad cam phasers or solenoids. But after taking the cable covers off the try replacing the solenoids we found that there had already been a lock out kit installed, what would cause it to run like that still. It runs really rough and will occasionally rev up to 2k and then just shut off.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Lockouts require a tune to keep things running even remotely okay.
Odds are that wasn’t applied to that band-aid fix (lockouts).
The engine has likely been running out of time for a long time (think misfires and cat converter damage) and has been running low on oil pressure for just as long. Metal on metal noises? Think lots of metal floating throughout the engine.
