Probably dont put one on because people would just do drain and fills and never change the filter.

Nope. It's cost. I was there, cost was the only consideration.

I had mine at the dealer at 90K miles. The service advisor was trying to convince me to run it out tot he full 150K service point but I said just do it. I'm at 135K and planning to do it again at 150K if I still have it. No issues what so ever before or after.

Stay loyal to that advisor.. You likely found a good one.. An honest service advisor is far and few between... Most want to suck every penny they can from each customer at every visit. Used to drive me crazy when I worked at the dealer..

Hi -
I changed my fluids at 85K, 2013 F150 4x4 XLT. I just had a small manual pump and put a hose down to the bottom of the pan and pumped the old fluid out. Then put new fluid in. Did not remove the pans on the one that did not have a drain plug. Changed front/back diff's and transmission fluids. Took me about two hours but am older so took a few breaks.

I did not put any friction oil in - just used the recommended.
  • Ford MERCON LV Automatic Transmission Fluid
  • Ford Genuine Ford Fluid XY-75W140-QL SAE 75W-140 Synthetic Rear Axle Lubricant
  • Valvoline Daily Protection 80W-90 Gear Oil
  • Performance Tool W1139 Quart/Gallon Fluid Pump and Hose for Vehicle Oils and Maintenance

Been several months and no issues.

I did all my fluids, trans pan and filter, rear differential, and coolant at 100k. Having since done a drain/fill on trans fluid at 125k. Real simple with Dorman pan.

i found a really slick, to me anyway, to do a drain/fill of trans fluid. No mess, no guess work.

something else I did about once a year, suck brake master cylinder down and add new fluid. I don’t let the fluid get dark. Normal braking action gradually cycles fluid in the lines as well.

also on vehicles with power steering, do the same about once a year.

On the subject of servicing the driveline.. Just finnished this one up today... The converter from Ford is on national backorder so I had to go aftermarket.. The guy was off roading in AWD and smoked his converter.. Side note:AWD is for on road. 4x4 high and 4x4 low is for off road.. This is why he smoked his converter and destroyed his pump front bushing.... New pump and converter and its doing fine... I try to do the front axle before 140k like this one... Usually around 60k especially if the customer does a lot of AWD driving.
