I guess the front one includes the exhaust manifold. The rear bank converter is separate.
If your state does not have emissions testing, you only use the vehicle, umm, "off road" and you don't mind possibly having to stare at a check engine light, you could hollow out the catalytic converters. But, you probably should make REALLY sure that your converters are actually plugged before taking a non-reversible approach such as that. It's also possible that only the rear converter is plugged since both banks need to flow through that if I'm not mistaken.
I only had to worry about the rear converter and the Escape had spent most of it's life in Arizona so it came apart surprisingly nicely. I'm not sure if there are items that are in the way or problems with bolts breaking to get the front manifold assembly off. Best of luck!
You may want to try starting after putting the top two in just to make sure the no-start condition is still present, then proceed to remove the other two.
ok i put back in the top 02 sensors......would not run....i pulled out the bottom 2 .....and it would still not run......im guessing i got some block converters?
That would be my guess as well. Ouch! Be real sure you fix any misfires, out-of-range coolant temperature sensors, or leaking fuel injectors before or immediately after installing new catalytic converters so that you don't overheat and melt the expensive new ones.
Ok I guess I'm going to do the new exhaust.....looks like going to be a pain to do....might take me a few weeks.....but I'll holler back when done.....thanks for your advice!
