I have a 1972 250 with a newly rebuilt 390. The engine was run on a stand at the engine builders before I put it back in. Ran very well. I started the truck up of the first time the other day and just drove it for few minutes to verify that things were OK. It ran fine.
The next day I came out cranked it over and it was a different story. It would crank a couple of revolutions and then stop. I hit the key again and it would crank again with less power and again stop rotating.
I put a new starter in it, and a new battery and no change. Does anyone have any other thoughts of else I could check out?
This kind of thing is not uncommon when rebuilding things. Something gets put together, but never tightened down because you think " I'll get that later". I've made it a habit to recheck nuts and bolts to make sure they are torqued before I close something up for the last time. Good thing it was something that did not cause damage.
