Engine started to crank over at a normal start speed, then I felt and heard a quick thump that sounded like something had broke internally. The engine now cranks over very slow as if the battery was going dead. The battery and starter are both fairly new. The engine cranks to slow to even get an accurate compression test. I have had a few amateur mechanics listen to it crank over, and one has said that it sounds like there is no compression. I also have spark. What type of problems would cause the engine to crank slow and not fire? Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
this is just a guess when i change engines.my engine it did the same thing it turned over reel slow the problem was it was the ground wire from engine to frame you might want to check it just in case or you could check your starter could be weak
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-Jun-02 AT 09:36 AM (EST)]In my earlier post I told you to check the ground wire from frame to engine. Clean it with sandpaper. Check your battery cables, clean them. You could also have transmission problems. Or a bad crankshaft position sensor. Timing chain will give the same symptoms. Weak starter. Make sure your battery is good. Might be the solenoid. Hope it's not the head gaskets. Please reply on what you have checked so far.
