I get this burning smell at really weird times, sometimes it happens right after starting the truck cold, sometimes when I'm just driving either in town or on the highway. Just totally random and usually lasts about 10 - 15 seconds. Any ideas where to start looking? The thing that gets me the most is that it can happen after a cold start it will smell almost instantly???
My inclination is to think you’re smelling oil and one might want to look at the valve cover gaskets and area just above the exhaust manifold as it’s going to be the area that gets hot first after a cold start.
Having smelled something I think might be similar I'd suspect the heater's blower motor switch loacated inside the cab. I can come and go as the switch housing experiences a bigger current draw for things like a failing blower motor. a failing resistor OR the connector(s) if the entire heater circuit. It's happened several times one symptom is one of the blower speeds no longer works while the others do,
