The 320 cam has an LSA of 112, the idle vacuum is too low for STOCK SD computer. If you swap to pimpx or Holley, it will work. That cam will lose low end torque. Re gear the rear if you want to keep it. Stock tires and 3.73s. Would be an ok all around. I run 4.10s, they stick on interstate, but I rarely see that. If you can budget aluminum heads, you’ll make your mark of 300. You can do E-streets or flotek do that.

I don’t really care about low end torque so much as I’d like it to rev high. I’m already running long tubes which has me having to rev it to get it going anyways
LSA is only part of the camshaft selection, valve events make a HUGE difference to your desired powerband. That 212/218 on a 112 would be nice, would prob do a 206/210 or similar in a fairly stock truck but that is me.
You have the running DD truck, upgrade to PimpX and learn to add timing, change smog bits, P.E....F it up? Start from stock flash again.
I really like the H.O. cam for a stock headed truck, even with bolt ons. Idles great, makes reasonable power and fairly common. Last I paid was $50. That with truck intake and full exhaust scoots. The best? NO. great budget setup
I love TFS Twisted Wedge heads, problem is they are stud mount. Need lots of other bits to run, yet worth it. FMS had their GT40X with ped mount, same with Edelbrock. Coyote swaps happen now, so the old small block stuff dropped in value in my area
Get to know local boys, guaranteed someone knows someone with some old alu heads around, E7s are wheel chocks to me
Roller 351s are about, late 93 came out. F4TE on casting pad. Look for a clapped RV or conversion van, those are probably best bet for lower mileage engine
Basically, research more before you leap.

I’ve already pulled a spider and dog bones from junkyard truck.
I was asking if that block is already drilled and tapped for the spider.

Probably double what I paid for a Comp cam in 2017. I paid several hundred dollars more for a custom cam with lifters. I’d have to see what the cam alone cost but it was probably close to the Comp cam price.

Yes sir it is. Has the threaded dimples where the spider bolts down.

So 8 years ago you paid $275 for a Comp cam and lifters? I’m not sure I’m understanding what you were trying to tell me here^
I think an entire set of OE style hydraulic roller lifters is a bit over $780. Everything has gotten outrageous on prices over the last several years. The Edelbrock 3881 intake was less than $800 on Summit before the Covid fiasco and now it costs over $1100. If you want to put the better parts in an engine, you have to pay the premium price.

Twice I asked you if the block was drilled and tapped for the spider. I was responding to Hit Man about the price of the camshaft versus when I bought my last Comp cam.

I responded with I have a roller block in earlier response
I was gonna get one with the pimpx i priced it about $1200 for the software, computer, and wideband
That seems like a real rabbit hole to go down but more power to you if you pull it off and or enjoy it enough to keep tinkering with it to get good at it!
