Are you still using the stock drum brakes? That could explain why they are touchy. Drums are self energizing and may not need as much boost. Master cylinder piston diameter plays into this as well. Either way, I would have to get a later bell housing with the clutch slave mounting boss to have a hanging pedal conversion make sense.
Ihave not done any of these modifications but have sold 57-60 ford truck hanging pedals to 53-56 guys wanting to go that route
yes if you went hydraulic clutch you'd need a y block bell housing from 57-64 truck with the provision for the clutch slave mounting unless you could figure something else out.
in my opinion it's a lot of work and not worth the reward
I'm inclined to agree that the hanging pedals are only probably worth it if one already has the later bellhousing or a different drivetrain. I think my choice is now whether to go with the frame mounted master with the 7-inch booster (which all seem to use 1 1/8 inch pistion) as this one might fit with my cross member and exhaust, or the firewall mounted master that all seem to be a 1-inch pistion with an 8-inch booster. I think I could live with the firewall mount if the pedal was in the right spot. Either way I finally need to address this because currently, my stock brake pedal is very high and hard with high pedal effort needed.
