1969 F-100 lowering and brake conversion

Hi everyone! My father and I are working on building my '69 f100. We are building it slowly, due to me being in college and therefore having $$ issues. The time has come for the suspension and brakes. At first we were considering putting a crown vic front end in it, but I did not want it to sit as low as that would make it. I have recently found the DJM3004-3/4 complete lowering kit and am strongly considering using it. However, I would also like to do a disc brake conversion from a 73-73 f100. If I were to use the DJM kit would I need to get the kit for the 73-79 or would I need the 65-72 kit like I was planning on using? I am just not quite sure which would be best for the disc brake conversion.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would get the 73-79 kit, since the stock stuff bolts into the 65-72 chassis anyway.

If the stuff bolts up to the 65-72 chassis, then why couldn't I use the 65-72 kit?

Because the 65-72 kit is not built for disc brakes....

Ya need to check if your rig has the FlexoMatic (FOM) springs in the back. DJM'S shackles don't work with the FOM springs. You'd need to swap to standard springs.

Btw, I recall about a year ago a fellow FTE'er stating that there is only one part number now for DJM drop beams. Please verify.

If yer not a purist, a potentially cheaper front disc swap is to use Scarebird LLC's brackets on your existing drum spindles. .. plus Dodge rotors, 90s GM truck calipers, and 80s Camaro hoses among other things.

Installing the Scarebird parts on my 66 F100 2WD with DJM beams tomorrow. My big concern is brake line plumbing from whatever manual dual master cylinder I use to the front and rear brakes. I may wish I'd bought the high dollar kit with the parts included! Don't have brake line fabrication experience or the proper flare tools

Thanks for the encouragement...bending and flaring some hard lines would be good fab experience. And I'm not afraid to buy a new tool!

DJM only lists one part number for drop beams for 67-79 F100's. I believe the shackles are different in the back, maybe the dent springs are wider? Not sure. If you change to disc brake spindles, you'll need to change the steering links to those from a disc brake truck as well. The boss where the steering links connect is thicker on the disc spindles. Or, you could cut down that thickness to fit your old links.
