Brake booster upgrade question

Ok guys I have the 70f250 crew 4x4. I just recently put a 79 f250 dana 60 front axle under it with disk brakes. I have changed out the proportioning valve and also bought a new MC for the 79 a larger one. Question is I had put power drum brakes on there with the 9in booster and drum MC. I have removed the drum MC and was going to install the 79 MC on the 9in booster. Is this ok or do I have to run the larger 11-12in booster that is original on the 79. I like the smaller one for size and clearance but if it mechanicaly will hinder my disk brakes from working at their full potential I'd like to know? Or is in not a big deal?

I'd say you're gonna need the disc brake booster. From '68 - '70 there was only one booster for drum or disc, the 9" with the lever arm that attaches to the pedal. This booster was marginal in disc brake applications. In '71 they came out with the 8.8" tandem diaphragm booster for the discs only. This booster uses the straight rod, some adjustable, to the pedal. There was a tsb about replacing the 9" with the 8.8" for '68 - '70 disc brake customers complaining about high pedal effort.

I'm not familiar with the big booster on the '79, sorry.

Ok now u have me confused does the 9in one have an adjustable pushrod? 8.8 and 9 are so close where do I measure from or how i distinguish between the 2? Mine has an adjustable rod that attatches to the brake pedal and an adjuster that goes into the MC?

Sounds like you already have one. The 9" unit looks like two soup bowls put together, the 8.8" is more sausage shaped. I got 'em both in the garage somewhere. Will take some pics tomorrow if you want.

I just remembered the F350 used that booster too, here's how it looks in the Shop Manual:

That's the 8.8"

Ok, I'll try and find them.

Found them, the left one is the 9" and the right one is the 8.8", don't ask me how they measure 'em.

You'd think the bigger one is better but the smaller one has two diaphragms working together, kinda like stacking batteries.

The left one has a lever in-between the pedal rod and booster, the right one goes straight into the booster.
