Time for some tires
Time for some tires
I've had a pretty good run with the Falken Wildpeak A/T3's. They just turned 3 and I got over 63,000 miles out of them so far. Decent tires but I want to try something else. I would REALLY like white lettering, but there isn't much available, and another set of Coopers would be a super hard sell after my last experience with them not wanting to balance.
So what are you guys with stock suspensions running, and what are your thoughts?

Interesting consensus. I've been leaning towards the Toyo's based on reviews I have read on multiple sites. If only Mavis Tire/NTB would have included the brand in their Black Friday deals.
What kind of mileage do you guys expect to get out of a set? I can't believe I've gotten 63k out of the Falkens. My last rodeo from new to worn out on a 6.0 was not even 30K with the BFG KO2's. In fact I think it was even lower than that, but I'd have to go back and look through old threads.

I'm a fan of white lettering too and have always preferred BFG All-Terrains. They've never let me down on wet or dry pavement, gentle rain or torrential, and if I needed to go off road they got me where I needed to go. The plan is to upgrade the two 6.0 trucks to KO3s and the 7.3 to some new Coopers or maybe even Toyo the way this thread looks.

In regards to the TOYO's, I've had 3 sets in the last 12 years. Unfortunately I do not drive very far to work and the average mileage per year is 7-9k. Needless to say the tires begin to weather at the tread before they are 1/2 way worn, and I replace them because I tow many things throughout the year.
Luckily I sell the tires as a used set on Offer Up and recoup some money. The tires wear beautifully and even (rotate 100%).
The early KO2 tires had a bad mix of compound in them and BF Goodrich knew it. That's why they didn't offer a warranty on them unless you called customer service and raised some cane. I bought a set for the '05 Excursion and my Dad bought a set for the '01 he was driving. The set on my '05 didn't make it 22k before they were worn out. The set on the '01 made it around 30K before I had to get some new tires.

I will NEVER buy another BF Goodrich tire. I had two sets of tires years back and one failed at the sidewall sitting in the parking lot at work and the other failed at the sidewall and thank god it didn't blow when I was driving. I got home from a long drive and looked at the sidewall....baseball size balloon. BF GOODRICH ARE TRASH.

The only time I’ve ever had an issue with a BFG was when a body shop did me a favor and overinflated the tires, which caused a blowout. Maybe I’ve missed the problem production window when they had issues but with my mostly highway driving I’ve gotten 80 to 100,000 miles out of a set. I’ve not bought the two or three series tires.
We’re in different areas, and have different requirements, but..
X3 for Toyo. On three trucks. AT3 x2 and M55. M55 ride a bit rough, but tough. AT3 have been good off road, trails, and bush roads with sharp rocks, and the highway. I know you’re in the south, but AT3 are good in the snow as well. They seem to be good all around option AT for me here.
I used to run BFG AT and KO2, but moved on from them, wore fast, and useless in the snow. I hear good things about the new BFG KO3 around here though, new tread pattern, and good in the snow - they mush have changed compounds too.
Firestone AT has changed, but they used to be decent. Cooper STT pro I’ve had good luck with on Jeep. But would be noisy, and get louder as they wear, especially on a heavier truck. I’ve run other coopers, can’t remember which ones, they were ok, but not yr round. Goodyear I gave up on yrs ago.
I got tired of having multiple sets of tires, snow tires, and switching everything over winter to summer, storing, etc. my goal was to find a good year round tire that could also handle some bush roads and trails.
3 yrs in, So far so good. I’ll stick with the Toyo’s. No idea what kind of mileage I’ll get out of them, I don’t drive my trucks enough anymore to wear a set out, they’ll age out. No noticeable wear yet after 10k miles on the ‘06 SD.

I have the Cooper AT3 on mine. This is the second set I’ve had on this truck. They wear great, the traction on these are fantastic. They are tough to balance but a good tire shop can handle the challenge. They may have break them loose from the rim and spin them a little to get them perfect. They do have a pretty stiff sidewall and run a little rough. I don’t really mind, it’s a truck, not a Toyota.
After having BFs, I’m pretty much sticking with these.

After having BFs, I’m pretty much sticking with these.I can tell you from personal experience, there's a big difference between the road feel of a crew cab short bed and a supercab long bed. The former drives more like a big SUV, and the later is all truck, and tires that balance well make a big difference. I might have been ok with my last set of Coopers if they were on my old crew cab, but that's history.
Your wheelbase is 156" and mine is 158".
What I believe it boils down to is less weight over the rear end, and less overall stiffness.
I can't speak for the newer trucks with front coil springs, but my comparison subjects are both 03's with leaf springs all around.
