along with my weightlifting ive been wanting to get into a kickboxing course, or something like it. im not really into any martial arts, just not my style. part of it is for self defense, and part of it is to get into toner physical shape. oh yeah and also id like to find something i can compete in. ive been looking for places near the Twin Cities MN
BuiltTough, ive been thinking about the same thing, but i want to go take Judo (sp?). I dont care about entering any comp with it, but like u said itll get me in better shape, build up my stamina, and also for self defense.
I'm a medium sized guy and have had some exposure to a number of styles. Hawaiian Karate, Ninjitsu, Kung Fu.
By far the most applicable to real life, as you've seen in the "Ultimate Fighting", is Jujitsu and apparently the Brazilian variant especially.
Jujitsu sounds awesome, and is definately something i wanna take. Its mostly grappling with very little kicking right? and Judo and jujitsu is the same right? I know that just made me sound stupid, but hey its all good, lol
Judo and Jujitsu are not the same. Judo concentrates primarily on "throws" but has some hand technique that is common to both jujitsu and aikido. Aikido like techniques are often taught to police officers. Kicks are not a strong part of any of these forms but are not absent altogether.
Kickboxing will definatly get you in shape. I've done a little along with my other martial arts training. Prepare to sweat! All martial arts systems have something valid to learn. Look around and find one that fits. You can never know too much!
