T98 instillation

I’m having the hardest time getting my t98 back in my 64’. It’s difficult to set upright on my transmission jack and it won’t fit. Has anyone had a similar hard time and do you have any tips? I’m between towing it to a lift or cutting a hole in the floor to help stabilize it as it’s lifted. Any help would be appreciated.

Stabilizing transmission on a jack

I took a couple of pieces of 3/4” angle iron and bolted them to the tail shaft housing bolts and then to the chain arms on the trans jack. These held it rigidly to the support plate on my Harbor Freight trans jack.
That’s how I got the NP435 back into my 65.
Mine does have the full size hole in the cab floor, that helps a lot.

I dropped it down through the floor of the cab. The floor has a removable cover

I did the same as Skid. Took the cover off the floor and dropped it in that way. It's a two person job for sure, though. That little box is heavy and awkward!

If you haven't done this yet, get some longer replacement bolts for bolting the transmission to the bell housing. Cut the heads off and cut slots in the end. This is to help align the two, as they are brought together. Then replace with the correct bolts once things are aligned. I did this, by myself, on my '64.
